About Julia
My 20-year career has been dedicated to working with high school students as they pursue their postsecondary goals. I spent nine years as a Co-Director of College Counseling at Moses Brown School, a college preparatory school in Rhode Island. There, I worked with a caseload of approximately 40 students each year, getting to know the unique aspirations of each student and family whom I counseled.
Prior to working in a New England private school setting, I directed the college counseling program at Saint John’s School, a college preparatory school in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Before that, I served as an Assistant Director of Admission at Connecticut College, where I reviewed applications and gained familiarity with selective admissions. I continue to engage in various forms of professional development, including college application reading, to enhance my work.
My own college years were spent at American University, where I majored in Public Communication, minored in Education Studies, and interned in the undergraduate admission office. After working at a Boston-based college admission software company, I earned a MSEd. in Higher Education Management at the University of Pennsylvania.
While Rochester, NY will always be “home” to me, I reside in Scarborough, Maine with my husband, two children, and rescue cat from Puerto Rico. I enjoy cooking, fashion & design, fitness, traveling to new cities, visiting college campuses (over 100 so far!) and reading novels and college essays with equal enthusiasm.
"Even though I work at a university, I have no expertise with regard to how best to tackle the admissions process. Julia is an expert and met with the whole family to outline a customized plan that worked for us. After that, she and my daughter worked together on the plan with regular updates to me. Working with Julia minimized our stress and any tension that may have arisen if we were overseeing the process. I can't recommend Julia highly enough."
-Elizabeth (Parent, Pennsylvania)
“Julia gave me very honest feedback and helped me develop a great idea for my college essay. She really took what I liked and found the perfect list of college ideas for me.”
-Madison (Student, Virginia)
Julia was honest and clear but also really encouraging. She kept me on track so I didn’t miss a step. I appreciated her thoughts on my writing and felt like she took a lot of time reading my materials. There are so many pieces to the process and Julia made me feel like I had it under control.”
-Ava (Student, Rhode Island)
Let’s talk
When entering into a student-counselor partnership, it is critical for everyone involved (student, parent/family support member, and counselor) to feel there’s a strong match. I invite each family to set up a complimentary 30-minute Zoom consultation to get a sense of my personality and style, and to see if I’m the best person to support your process.
